Under a Gibbous Moon

Most centers for higher education pride themselves upon attracting the best and the brightest faculty to educate their students. They boast about their accomplishments and how they are working hard to advance our knowledge and understanding of the universe we live in.

Of course at NCC, things are different. Hence this email stared out:

I’ve started taking classes at the local community college. At NCC they take pretending to be a real college way to seriously. They go on and on about campus life, hold event on the quad, and otherwise waste their limited resources.

Periodically, they send out emails called Northampton NOW. Contained within are upcoming events, social networking, and other minutia. The latest one though about made my eyes melt out of their sockets:

“Who would you rather have bite you: the vampires of Twilight or True Blood? Vote now!”

It’s supposed to be a deep dish pizza. Went to the local Pizza Hut with my wife tonight and instead of a large deep dish pizza we got a large hand tossed pizza. When we asked the waiter about the pizza he went back to check on it. When he came back we had what was probably one of the most awkward conversations he’d had as a server.

Apparently, they were out of large deep dish pizza dough and so, instead of saying anything, they just made a different pizza and hoped that we wouldn’t notice.

Yup, sounds like a plan to me. What makes this hilarious, is that this must be standard Pizza Hut policy because this happened to me better than a decade ago. I forget exactly what I ordered but the toppings were wrong. When asked about it, they said that they were out of the one (sausage if I remember correctly) so we just used this instead (pepperoni if I remember correctly).

Now Pizza Hut, shit happens, I understand that. You run out, things don’t go right, it happens to all of us, but please just be up front. This whole, hope we don’t notice thing turns small problem into a big mistake.

Remember back during the Haiti earthquake when Wyclef Jean was accused of funneling money from his Haiti charity to himself. Then he cried and said that he wan’t very good with accounting for money.

Well, now he’s running for the president of Haiti.

So either he’s a crook or he’s no good with money, either way, I don’t see him doing much good for Haiti.

I recently replaced my old laptop with one made by ASUS. One of the nice things about ASUS laptops is that they have a free, two year accidental damage warranty (ADW). After I brought it home I downloaded the forms, filled them out, and mailed them in so that I could take advantage of this.

I recently received and email from ASUS stating that my laptop does not qualify for that ADW because it was purchased from a retailer (Best Buy) that offers their own warranty service. Specifically:

Deny Reason: Bought from Best Buy – Retailer does not participate in ADW

It’s good to know that Best Buy’s terms of sale with ASUS preclude them from giving you their free warranty so that Best Buy can sell you theirs.
