A Chinese finger trap for your penis

by on Jun.21, 2010, under News

No really.

Apparently, it was developed by a South African doctor as a way to combat rape (which is rampant in the country). It’s also a great new incentive not to cheat on your significant other.

Dangers of a double standard

by on Jun.20, 2010, under News

Drunk police officer discharges her weapon in squad car. Must be Texas.

What makes this story interesting is that this police officer, who was off duty at the time, was so drunk that two on duty police officers were summoned for her. They put her in the back of the squad car. She argues with them, pulls out her service pistol and fires it.

Luckily, no one was injured. It is, though, a double standard that because she was a police officer they didn’t attempt to find out if she was armed or, that if they knew or suspected, attempt to disarm her. If it had been anyone else that is one of the first thing the officers would have done and this whole even would never had occurred.

This is what happens when segment of the population is deemed to be above the law.

Bonus double standard. The suspects name is strangely withheld in the article.

Don’t have a whole lot to say about this article. It was written about the border patrol agent who shot and killed a teenager who was throwing rocks.  I present it because the statistics it offers line up well with an earlier piece I did.

Police burn, shoot 7 year old during raid

by on May.17, 2010, under News

Another story of police botching a search warrant. In Detroit, Michigan, the police obtained a search warrant for a home looking for the suspect in a murder.

Before kicking in this door, they threw a flash bang through the window. It landed on the couch where 7 year old Aiyana Jones was sleeping. When it went off, it caught her on fire. The police burst in through the door and got into a “tussle” with Aiyana’s grandmother. During this “tussle” the police managed to shoot her. Pretty brutal, according to witnesses, she was burning when she was shot.

So, in close, the police managed to arrest a murder suspect, set a little girl on fire, and then shoot her. I feel safer already.

Credibility

by on May.15, 2010, under News, Rant

The media always has it’s trends on what kind of news stories it likes to report. At least this is what I assume happens since I don’t think that particular crimes just happen in spurts around our country. “I think this week all the criminals will rob banks. Next week, it will be kidnapping.” They figure out what is popular based on readership, or hits for online sources, and find and report on that topic for a while. Recently we seem to have famous people raping or molesting the regular people. I previously discussed LT’s little predicament, so I’ll leave that out.

Ahh...Just what the media ordered!

We have had now Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and actor Steven Seagal. I don’t want to discuss a lot of detail about the particular cases, but they both lack credibility. How is that? Well outside of some circumstances that don’t seem to fit, they have both refused to file criminal charges and have jumped into civil lawsuits. Nothing says gold-digging whore like accusing someone of a crime, refusing to file criminal charges, but freely jumping into the “gimme money” phase.

Is this proof of guilt or innocence? Absolutely not. But in an era where our court cases are won or lost in the media, this looks bad. Sadly, from reading internet comments (where the stupid comes out to play) some seem to think that a womans accusations of sexual misconduct against a man automatically makes him guilty. Sadly a premise all too frequently shared by our legal system. That and having a prior unfounded accusation makes the accusations true for then and now.
