Picture!

by on May.14, 2010, under Random

I have titled this picture “big goddamn moose”.

I post this for no other reason than when I saw it I thought to myself, “Shit. That’s a big goddamn moose.” And then, the world should see this too. The best I can tell judging from the tree height and road width that he’s a little over ten feet from front foot to shoulder hump.

How to make a career

by on May.14, 2010, under News

This is all this big ta-do with Lawrence Taylor seems to be about. Some prosecutor is trying to get a name by prosecuting LT with a big name crime. Third degree rape sounds bad and will get you public kudos for taking someone down. I’m not terribly familiar with New York law, but from what I have read the don’t have a solid case for this charge. Rape in the 3rd degree is what New York calls statutory rape most other places. From what I have read, both parties have claimed that the prostitute misrepresented her age. I imagine that would take the wind out of their sails. Seems to me that if this wasn’t high profile, they probably would have just gone with solicitation of a prostitute and focused more on the pimp for trafficking.

Speed Training

by on May.14, 2010, under Random

Tonight was a little lower body speed work. That typically involves some sort of dynamic effort squat or deadlift, but not tonight. At first I was thinking of doing some power cleans. That’s a good movement that requires a lot of speed to do right. I pulled one at 225 lbs and my aforementioned shoulder that feels like a smashed bag of assholes still hurt. So instead I did seated box jumps

Seated box jumps are exactly what they sound like. I am seated on a bench that is about 16 inches tall. From a seated position I jump onto a wooden box of varying height.

10 jumps on 27 inch box x 3
8 jumps on 34 inch box x 2
6 jumps on 36 inch box
6 jumps on 38 inch box x 2

Not a lot of stuff and I took about an hour. Way too long with too much rest in between sets but I was talking too much. The jumping is a lot more challenging as it sounds and I am not good at jumping.
