Under a Gibbous Moon

Break from reality

I have recently returned from a two week long vacation. It was the longest, by far, that I have taken in many years.

Since it was our daughter’s first Christmas, my wife and I decided to take the long vacation to spend it with our family back in Illinois. It was a good trip and very relaxing, despite the very long drives that bookended it.

At first, I attempted to keep up my normal blogging routine but I rapidly found it to be difficult to both socialize and find he time to read and write. After the first few days, though, I just said hell with it and, with that, dropped he last vestiges of my normal routine.

It was so liberating to be free. No time to get up in the morning, no work to go to, no errands to run and plenty of relatives willing to take the baby to give you a bit of peace.

The freedom to leave everything behind and, at least pretend, that I had no responsibilities was like the first breathe one takes after holding it under water.

Of course, it all must come to an end. Soon it shall be back to work and into he old routine. The hardest part of leaving it all behind is finding that it is still waiting for you when you get back and that it brought friends.
