The new Blackberry Storm, now with less suck!

by on Nov.14, 2009, under Technology

My parents both own the original Blackberry Storm. I have had the opportunity to use it a fair bit and I think it is a little better than many of the negative reviews it has received would lead to you to believe. I do understand them though.

The Blackberry Storm is the phone that should have been. It had everything going for it but for some reason, it failed to deliver. It’s touchscreen was not very responsive and its performance was underwhelming. One of its major selling points, the click screen was awkward.

Enter the Blackberry Storm 2. I’m not sure “2″ is such a great moniker. It is simply the original Storm if, somewhere along the line, it had not been screwed up. I had the opportunity to play with one today and it is a definite improvement but nothing new or groundbreaking. The merely fixed everything that was wrong with the original. The touch screen is much more responsive and it no longer lags when you open a program or switch from portrait or landscape. The click screen has been remarkable improved. The click of the screen is much more subtle and it did not feel as awkward on the press as the first Storm did.

There is nothing new or awe inspiring about the Storm 2 but if you’re looking for a touchscreen and want a Blackberry then they finally have a handset that is not such a disappointment. Personally, I think Blackberry should offer a discount to anyone who wants to trade in their “Beta” Storm for the real one.
